Academy of Arts

Mission Statement


Acknowledging the Arts as a gift of God, it is the purpose of the Smoke Rise Academy of Arts to provide students with quality instruction and a means of expression for their God-given talents. In a stimulating environment, students are challenged by outstanding teachers to develop their unique and individual gifts.

Facilities
The Academy of Arts is located on the premises of Smoke Rise Baptist Church. Facilities include a 55-rank Schantz pipe organ and Bosendorfer and Yamaha grand pianos. Our 265 seat Chapel serves as our premier recital hall with its outstanding acoustics for musical performances. Also, the elevated 100-seat Choral Suite is an additional recital hall. The Fellowship Hall has a full-size theatrical stage, professional lighting system and seats up to 600 people.

Instructors
Academy instructors hold at least a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in their field, with many having graduate degrees.

Private Lessons
The Academy offers private music lessons in the areas of piano, organ, flute, trumpet, trombone, french horn, baritone, solo guitar, violin, viola, clarinet, saxophone, acoustic/electric guitar, drums, percussion/mallet instruments, mandolin and voice.

CLASSES


Painting

Oil Painting
A class for adults. Students learn the techniques of the Masters, how to mix colors, and how to see in depth. Beginning to advanced students choose their own subject from still life to Old Masters and work at their own pace.






Painting

Visual Arts for Children and Youth
This course will enable students to explore many ways to be expressive through art. In an upbeat, warm and accepting atmosphere, we will experiment with drawing, pastels, watercolors, acrylics on canvas, clay, string art, and more!






Drama

Drama for Children and Teens
Twice each year, students will perform at least one major drama and scenes from many popular dramas and musicals. Past performances have included: The Wizard of Oz, A Christmas Carol, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Broadway Jr. musicals include: Seussical, Jr., Music Man, Jr. and Beauty & the Beast, Jr..






Ballet

Ballet Classes
Tap-Ballet for Preschool ages 3, 4, and 5 years (3 by Dec. 31). Classes are divided with 20 minutes of tap and 25 minutes of ballet. All activities are executed to fun music.






Violin

Twinkler Violin Class
The Twinkler Violin class is a 45 minute class designed for preschool children (four and five year-olds). Students do not need violins to begin the class, but will need to acquire one after the first month. The class is structured to include parent participation.








Summer Programs
Register Online

  • Adult Oil Painting and Private Music Instruction are on-going throughout the summer.
  • Summer Drama sessions begin in May and conclude with shows at the end of August. The registration deadline for Summer Drama is May 1.
  • Fall Music lessons begin in mid August and end in mid May (following school schedules).
  • Fall Drama sessions begin in October and conclude with shows during mid March. The registration deadline for Fall Drama is October 1.
