Dr. Robert F. Browning became the pastor of Smoke Rise Baptist Church in January, 1999. He has a BA degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky and two degrees, the M.Div and D.Min, from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. He was ordained by the First Baptist Church of Greenville, Kentucky in January, 1970.
He and Jackie were married in June, 1970 and have three children, Jason, Amy Blair and Josh. Dr. Browning has two grandchildren, Ellie, who was born in June, 2003, and Robey, who was born in June 2006. They live with their parents, Jason and Emily, in Somerset, Kentucky. His daughter and son-in-law, Amy and John Cowan live in Atlanta where John is in residency at Emory in the Department of Dermatology. His youngest child, Josh, is an engineer in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Browning has been active in Baptist life all his ministry serving in several denominational positions. He was President of the Kentucky Baptist Convention 1994-95, a trustee at Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky from 1986-1999, and served as the moderator of the Atlanta Metro Baptist Association from 2001-2003.
He has traveled to Honduras, Russia, Brazil and Kenya on foreign mission trips in addition to several cities in America.
His civic responsibilities have included serving on the Board of Directors for the Lake Cumberland Hospital, the YMCA Board and the Somerset Downtown Development Board.
He has been a columnist for The Commonwealth Journal and has had articles published in various journals. His sermons can also be found on the Baptist Center for Ethics website, EthicsDaily.com.
